How to start selling on Fiverr in 2026

Starting on Fiverr in 2026 is a sequence of gates, not a single upload: choose one service, build a profile that explains it, pass identity verification, publish a gig, and wait for buyers who arrive through search and through Fiverr matching.

Every number and rule below comes from a current Fiverr help page, with the ones Fiverr does not publish marked as such, so you know which parts of your plan are facts and which are guesses.

Roadmap from new Fiverr account through profile, verification, first gig, first order, and first payout
Five gates, in order.

Gate one: choose one service you can deliver

New accounts get four active gigs, which is a small budget. Spend it on one service described in a single sentence with a clear buyer, a clear deliverable, and a clear boundary, rather than four variations of I can do anything.

The sentence test: if a stranger cannot name the deliverable and the timeframe after reading it once, the service is not ready to publish. Niche choice and demand are covered in the niche validation checklist; finish that decision before opening the editor.

Buyers also reach you through Fiverr matching. Briefs have been replaced by Mira, Fiverr's AI headhunter, and new opportunities arrive as conversations in your Inbox. Sellers cannot start conversations with new clients, so there is no cold pitching — your job is a discoverable gig and a fast first reply.

Gate two: the profile buyers read first

Your display name has a rule most new sellers miss: English letters and spaces only, with periods and apostrophes allowed and numbers not. It also cannot contain a service name, a profession, an adjective like expert or best, or the words Pro, level 1, level 2, top rated, and Fiverr.

The profile URL can be edited up to five times, and usernames cannot be changed, so pick something a buyer can say out loud. Your About section follows the profile guidance: English, honest, original, tailored to your services, with no contact details, payment information, web addresses, or company names.

Fill the fields buyers filter on: skills, languages, education, certifications, then the profile elements available to every level — an intro video and a portfolio. The About paragraph has copy-ready examples elsewhere, and the profile optimization guide explains the order buyers read the page in.

  • Display name: letters, spaces, periods, apostrophes, no numbers
  • Professional title that names one service
  • About paragraph with counts, dates, and one boundary
  • Skills, languages, and certifications completed
  • Portfolio pieces labeled honestly, plus an intro video

Gate three: identity verification

Fiverr's identity verification article states that freelancers are routinely required to verify their identity, usually with an official government ID, and that when the notification appears you must verify as soon as you receive it: you will have 14 days to complete the process, and failing to do so will remove your ability to sell.

The process needs a computer and a smartphone with a camera, and only original physical documents are accepted — driver's license, passport, permanent residency card, ID card, residency permit, or diplomatic passport. Digital or online copies are not accepted, and a third-party provider compares the document against a selfie.

Two facts stop most scams and most panic: Fiverr will never ask for ID verification via email, and Customer Support cannot start the process or verify an ID for you, including through a ticket. If an attempt fails, wait at least six hours before retrying.

Email requestsFiverr will never ask for ID verification by email

Gate four: build the first gig

Choose the category before you write anything, because Fiverr states the category cannot be changed after the gig is published. Then the fields, all with published limits: a title that front-loads the phrase buyers type, a description of 1,200 characters, five search tags, a positive keyword field of up to five words or short phrases, up to ten FAQ questions, and three packages.

The gallery holds up to three images, one video, and two PDFs, and a gig needs at least one image to publish. Recommended image size is 1280 by 769 pixels, minimum 712 by 430, maximum 4000 by 2416, with text on the image kept to ten words or fewer.

Worked example of a first gig: a podcast clip editing service filed under video editing, titled around the phrase I will edit your podcast into vertical clips, a description naming three clips and a three-day window, five tags built from distinct buyer phrases, three packages where the middle one carries three clips, and a gallery of one cover image plus two before-and-after frames.

Your gig then moves through states Fiverr publishes by name: Active, Pending Approval, Requires Modification, Draft, Denied, and Paused. Significant edits to title, category, or pricing may send it back into review, during which it may not be visible.

  1. Pick the subcategory first; it is fixed after publishing

  2. Write the title around the phrase a buyer would type

  3. Set description, five tags, five keyword phrases, up to ten FAQs

  4. Build three packages with one revision option each

Gate five: price a gig that can be ordered

The minimum starting price is $5, though some categories have a higher minimum, and Fiverr publishes standardized minimums for specific package tiers: Mobile Apps full app creation and 3D product animation at $100, Data Science full project and WordPress full website creation at $80, and AI Artists at $15. The tier in your subcategory decides your floor.

On earnings, Fiverr states that for every order you complete you earn 80% of the purchase amount, including gig extras and tips. A $50 order puts $40 in your balance before withdrawal, and that balance becomes available 14 days after the order completes — seven days for Seller Plus, Top Rated, and Pro freelancers.

Underpricing hurts twice: it attracts the buyers who message the most and review the least, and it sets an anchor you then have to break. Price the middle package at what you would accept happily, and let the basic package be a smaller version of the same work.

How a first order actually arrives

Two doors are open to you: search, where a buyer finds your gig, and matching, where Mira sends a job description into your Inbox. Fiverr tells sellers to respond to the first Mira message within 24 hours to keep the response rate, and response rate is the percentage of first replies sent within 24 hours over the last 90 days.

Once an order is placed, the buyer has 14 days to submit the requirements you set, after which the order can be canceled with the buyer refunded. After you deliver, the order auto-completes in three days if the buyer takes no action, and the review window runs 14 days from completion in most categories, or 30 days in Programming and Tech and listed Digital Marketing subcategories.

Worked example of a first month: one $50 order delivered on day one, auto-completed on day four, $40 available on day eighteen. That completed order and its review are what make the second order easier — not a level badge, which needs all six published metrics, including five orders, three unique clients, and $400 in earnings.

The mistakes that stall a new account

The common mistake is waiting for a feature that no longer exists. Buyer Requests are gone, Briefs have been replaced by Mira, and the Personal Assistant shut down on October 1, 2026. A new seller who plans around any of those three spends the first month doing nothing.

The second is publishing four gigs at once and editing them all weekly. New accounts can hold four active gigs, and significant edits may push a gig back into review where it is not visible, so each field change costs the window you would have used to read the result.

The third is ignoring the verification notification or the response window. Both have published consequences: selling removed after 14 days without ID verification, and a response rate that falls every time a first message sits past 24 hours.

  • Do not plan around Buyer Requests, Briefs, or Personal Assistant
  • Do not edit every field the same evening and judge it the next morning
  • Do not let an ID verification notice age toward the 14-day edge
  • Do not leave a first message unanswered past 24 hours

Where Seller OS helps

Seller OS covers the parts of this sequence that repeat: drafting the profile paragraph and first gig copy from your service details, tracking the keywords behind that gig, and keeping reply drafts ready for when an opportunity lands in your Inbox. Drafts are written for you to review, so a 24-hour window does not mean a blank page.

It does not publish, send, or verify anything. A person performs every final Save, Continue, or Publish action, and the tools make no promise about orders or rankings.

How to Start Selling on Fiverr questions

How much does it cost to start selling on Fiverr?

Opening an account and publishing gigs costs nothing. You earn 80% of each completed order, including extras and tips, and Fiverr states that some new freelancers may be asked to pay a one-time fee to complete ID verification; the amount is not published, and the fee is included with Seller Plus Kickstart.

How many gigs can a new seller have?

Four active gigs as a new seller, then ten at Level 1 and Level 2 and thirty at Top Rated. Deleted gigs and automation gigs such as Logo Maker and Consultation do not count toward the limit.

How long does verification take before I can sell?

You have 14 days from the notification to complete ID verification, and failing to finish removes your ability to sell. The process needs a computer and a smartphone camera plus an original physical ID, and Fiverr publishes no review time.

How do I get my first order without reviews?

Make the gig findable and reply fast. Buyers reach you through search and through Mira messages in your Inbox, and response rate is measured on first replies within 24 hours over 90 days. Proof without reviews comes from the portfolio and a description with counts and dates.

Finish the gates in order, not in parallel

One service, one profile, one verification, one gig — then read the window before changing anything.
